SPAD INVESTIGATES EKSPRESS SENIBUDAYA (M) SDN BHD AND DRIVER
KUALA LUMPUR (29 August 2017): The express bus driver who allegedly assaulted his passenger and the bus operator concerned, Ekspress Senibudaya (M) Sdn Bhd, will be summoned for investigation by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) tomorrow (30 August 2017). The bus company will be required to record an official statement with SPAD tomorrow.
In the Sunday (Aug 27) incident, a commuter travelling from Kuala Lumpur claimed that the driver of a bus he was travelling in punched him in the face after reporting him for falling asleep behind the wheel. The bus was on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru.
The victim has been interviewed by SPAD at its Johor Bahru office (today) following his official complaint with the Commission. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the driver may be subject to legal action, while the operator might face legal action with a fine of up to RM500,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 2 years and/or administrative action which may include suspension or revocation of license.
While SPAD understands that the operator involved has taken swift action to suspend the driver, the Commission still regrets the incident, and would like to remind operators and drivers to place passenger welfare and safety at all times.
