Opening of SPAD’s office at UTC Kedah, Alor Setar

Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) is an initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy, aimed at boosting public access in urban areas to the various government and private sector services. The government would create UTCs as one-stop centres for all public and private services to tackle the problems and issues faced by the community.

UTC project is initiated by the Ministry of Finance. The main objective is to create a one-stop centre for all government agencies, banking institute, education centre, entrepreneurship advisory centre, welfare centre and NGO under one roof. 

UTC Kedah is the fifth centre, after that of Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Kuantan.  It is worth more than RM50million with a build-up area of 23,266 square meters and it is the largest of all UTCs in the country. The government is planning to open few more centres at other town in the future.

UTC Kedah was launched by YAB Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on 16 August 2013, in presence of Chief Minister, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.

UTC Kedah houses 43 government departments and agencies, as well as private, non-governmental organisations and retail centres.

SPAD has participated in UTC Kedah. Our UTC Kedah’s office will act as Kedah State Office, with a floor space of 2,700 square feet. It will offer full spectrum of counter services including new license application, license renewal, change of license condition, driver cards and others.

YAB Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has made his round of tour of UTC Kedah’s tenant and has stopped by at our office to officiate our office, in presence of En. Azlan Shah Al Bakri, General Manager, State Operations and Terminal Licencing. 

Our office will be manned by fourteen staff, headed by Puan Che Latifah bt. Yahya. This office will serve all of our clients within the State of Kedah and Perlis, totally about 9,000 operators.

 

With the establishment of this office, we will cease our operation at Sungai Petani within the month of September 2013.
